This June, we announced a landmark $12 million partnership with our Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, to launch two cutting-edge centres at IIT Bombay—the Wadhwani Hub for Biosciences, Bioengineering, Healthcare, and Medicine, and the Wadhwani Innovation and Translation Centre (WITC). Unveiled by the Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi, this initiative marks a bold leap in IIT Bombay’s commitment to national progress and global leadership. For more on this extraordinary generosity, please check our Alumni Giving section in the newsletter.

In our Special Reports for this month, we highlight three key events. The 2025 Commencement Ceremony brought together our entire graduating class for a shared moment of reflection and celebration, marking a significant milestone in their journey. We also celebrated the Institute Valedictory Function (Valfi) 2025—a heartfelt celebration of memories and milestones. Finally, we inaugurated H7, H8, and H21 as part of the completion of Project Evergreen, a testament to the incredible generosity of our alumni.

Dear Alumni,

Greetings from IIT Bombay! As we continue to navigate an exciting journey of growth and innovation at IIT Bombay, I am pleased to share some of our latest milestones and updates with you.

This June, we announced a landmark $12M partnership with our Distinguished Alumnus, Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, to launch two cutting-edge centres at IIT Bombay—the Wadhwani Hub for Biosciences, Bioengineering, Healthcare, and Medicine, and the Wadhwani Innovation and Translation Centre (WITC) at IIT Bombay. Unveiled by the Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi, this initiative marks a bold leap in IIT Bombay’s commitment to national progress and global leadership.

I am also pleased to announce the launch of a new vertical in this newsletter, “National Initiatives,” which highlights IIT Bombay’s pivotal role in driving large-scale programmes shaping India’s scientific, technological, and policy advancements. In this edition, we spotlight IIT Bombay’s leadership in the ‘Pushpak – National Mission on Drone Technology’ initiative. Backed by a Rs. 82.7 crore grant, this ambitious initiative will accelerate the development of homegrown drone technologies across critical sectors, in collaboration with six top-tier institutions.

Continuing on the theme of transformative initiatives, I am pleased to announce that the Class of 1998 has made a landmark commitment of Rs. 57 crore to support key initiatives at IIT Bombay. Look for more in the Batch Legacy section of the newsletter.

Building on our commitment to innovation, IIT Bombay has forged two strategic partnerships. With Indus Towers Ltd., our focus will be to drive cutting-edge research in solar power generation and energy storage, and with Hyundai Motor and Kia, we aim to propel India’s electric vehicle and battery technologies. Look for more in the Corporate Collaboration section in the newsletter.

As always, our alumni continue to make us proud with their remarkable achievements across industries. Satish Chavva (B.Tech., Mechanical Engineering, 1993) has been appointed CEO of the Oman India Joint Investment Fund. Harsh Maheshwari (B.Tech., Metallurgical Engineering, 2013) is driving innovations in EV battery technology at Tesla. Neha Singh (B.Tech. + M.Tech., Computer Science, 2008), co-founder of Tracxn, has revolutionized private market intelligence, serving global clients. Sachin Katti (B.Tech., Electrical Engineering, 2003) has taken on the role of CTO and Head of AI at Intel, shaping the future of technology. Their leadership and impact inspire us all and showcase the power of an IIT Bombay education. Look for more details in the Alumni Spotlight section.

I am also delighted to share that Dr. Parag Vyas, Adjunct Professor at IDC School of Design and alumnus of IDC (M.Des. and PhD), has been awarded the prestigious Golden Ratio Award 2025. This recognition, co-presented by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Karnavati University, highlights Dr. Vyas’s exceptional contributions to the field of design. Look for more details in the Faculty Spotlight section.

Our students do us equally proud. Our very own Amreen Khan continues to shine on the global stage. After being featured twice before on the Dean ACR newsletter, she is back. Amreen has now earned the Best Oral Presentation Award at the CADDTS-2025 international conference organized by the American Chemical Society. Her groundbreaking research, currently under Prof. Rohit Srivastava in BSBE, is making waves in the world of drug design and translational science. Look for Amreen’s exceptional research path in the Student Success Story section.

IIT Bombay’s Annual FAN (Faculty Alumni Network) Meeting will be held at Georgia Tech on June 21, 2025. I look forward to meeting you there (please look inside for the registration details).

As always, you will also find our regular features, including Research Spotlight, Student Success Stories, Faculty Accolades, Institute News and Highlights, Upcoming Events, and more in this month’s newsletter.

As we look ahead, I remain deeply grateful for the continued support and engagement of our alumni community. Your achievements, generosity, and connection to the Institute are what propel us forward. Thank you for being such an integral part of IIT Bombay’s journey. We hope you enjoy reading this edition of the newsletter—and as always, we look forward to staying connected.

Warmly,
