Each year, IIT Bombay attracts some of the country’s brightest young minds—top JEE rank holders who arrive with exceptional promise, intellectual curiosity, and the ambition to create meaningful impact.
These students represent the next generation of leaders in science, technology, and entrepreneurship.
While the Government’s Merit-cum Means (MCM) provisions provide financial assistance to students from families with annual incomes up to ₹5 lakh, a substantial segment of the student community falls outside this eligibility band and continue to face genuine financial pressures in meeting these expenses.
To address this, India Infoline (IIFL) Foundation supported IIT Bombay with the IIFL Scholarship Programme, an initiative designed to ensure that financial constraints do not interrupt academic journeys.
Bridging the Missing Middle
The programme provides full academic scholarships to 75 undergraduate students (25 women and 50 men), specifically supporting those who fall outside or beyond the scope of existing government aid. By covering key academic expenses, the initiative directly addresses a segment of students who might otherwise rely on loans or risk discontinuing their education.
With financial concerns eased, students can fully engage in academics and campus life. Many beneficiaries are first-generation college students from modest-income families, for whom this support is critical to continuing their education without disruption.
The impact is immediate and tangible— students report greater focus, improved confidence, and the freedom to participate in academic, technical, and extracurricular opportunities.
Shaping Futures Beyond the Classroom
The impact of the programme extends far beyond the classroom.
In a single academic year, 75 students received support, helping reduce dependence on education loans and easing financial stress for their families.
With greater stability and access to opportunities, students have been able to participate more actively in academic and skill-building activities, while gaining the confidence to pursue stronger long term career aspirations.
The collaboration between IIT Bombay and IIFL Foundation demonstrates how targeted CSR interventions can complement existing systems and fill critical gaps. These scholarships are vital enablers that ensure continuity, reduce stress, and allow them to focus on excellence without compromise.

The IIFL Scholarship Programme is not just financial aid. It is a bridge to opportunity, enabling deserving students to continue their education, realise their potential, and build a stronger future.
