When financial systems struggle to keep pace with fast-changing data and real-world uncertainty, it affects more than markets. It impacts businesses, decisions, and everyday economic resilience. At IIT Bombay, a new initiative is working to bridge this gap by bringing artificial intelligence closer to real-world financial needs.

In September 2025, Optiver India Securities Private Limited and IIT Bombay came together to establish the Optiver AI Innovation Lab, with a shared vision of advancing practical AI solutions for the financial sector.

In a short span of time, the Lab has moved from concept to execution, laying a strong foundation for long-term impact.

The Lab’s first phase has been centred on three priorities:

– Supporting relevant, problem-driven research
– Building advanced computing infrastructure
– Enabling industry-academia collaboration

This structured approach has ensured steady and meaningful progress.

Research That Reflects Real Needs

Four research projects have been initiated, each addressing key challenges in financial systems such as adapting to changing data, working with limited or uneven information, and enabling faster decision-making.

Together, these efforts aim to make AI systems more reliable, responsive, and applicable in real-world financial environments.

To support this work, the Lab is being built with a high-performance computing environment with advanced processors, GPUs, and storage systems.

This will enable researchers to work with large datasets, test ideas efficiently, and undertake projects that are closer to real world deployment, and publish in world-class journals. A key milestone has been the National Symposium on AI Innovation in BFSI Services, which brought together researchers, financial institutions, and industry experts.

The symposium created a valuable platform for sharing ideas, discussing practical challenges, and aligning research with industry needs.

With research underway, infrastructure in progress, and collaborations initiated, the Lab is well-positioned to deepen its impact in the coming years.

The Optiver AI Innovation Lab represents a thoughtful and steady start, focused on building the right capabilities, supporting meaningful research, and fostering collaboration.

With continued support from Optiver, the Lab is set to grow into a key hub for innovation for AI in Finance.
