When a person faces a health crisis, the anxiety is often compounded by a simple, harsh reality: the high cost and limited accessibility of life-saving medical technology. For many, modern healthcare feels like a distant luxury. At IIT Bombay, the Biomedical Engineering & Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC) was born from a desire to bridge this gap, and ensure that world-class medical devices are designed, built, and delivered right here at home.
Through a transformative partnership with the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the Institute is taking this mission to a new horizon. What began as a dedicated laboratory is now evolving into the IITB-ICICI BETIC Hub, a major scale-up in infrastructure and impact.
Located on the sixth floor of the upcoming Aerospace Department building, this Hub is more than just a collection of advanced machinery. It is an innovation powerhouse designed to scale our impact five-fold. With a 10-year vision, the Hub is set to develop 100 new medical device prototypes and support as many startups, turning academic breakthroughs into tangible bedside solutions.
Building India’s Health Innovation Ecosystem
The true heartbeat of the BETIC Hub lies in its human impact. Our goal is to train 1,500 healthcare innovators and facilitate 500 high-value jobs, creating a sustainable ecosystem for medical entrepreneurship.
Most importantly, this project aims to touch the lives of over 10,000 patients by providing affordable, low-cost healthcare solutions that were once out of reach.
Equipped with everything from multi material 3D printers and CNC precision machines to advanced signal analysers and surgical simulators, the Hub provides researchers with the tools to test fast and innovate faster.
It is this blend of technical precision and social responsibility that defines the collaboration between ICICI Foundation and IIT Bombay.

Together, we are ensuring that the future of healthcare isn’t just advanced—it’s inclusive.
We are not just engineering devices; we are engineering hope.
