Every time we stream a video, use AI tools, or store data online, vast data centres work silently in the background. But keeping these centres cool is one of their biggest challenges, consuming significant energy and resources.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, access to quality technical education remains uneven, especially when it comes to hands on learning and personalised support.

India’s growing mountains of waste are hard to ignore. With rapid urbanisation, millions of tonnes of municipal solid waste are generated every year—often ending up in landfills, causing pollution, health risks, and environmental damage. But what if this waste could be transformed into something valuable?

As the world shifts toward clean energy, one element has quietly become indispensable—lithium. It powers everything from mobile phones to electric vehicles and large-scale energy storage systems. However, extracting lithium today is expensive, environmentally intensive, and dependent on limited global sources.

When a person faces a health crisis, the anxiety is often compounded by a simple, harsh reality: the high cost and limited accessibility of life-saving medical technology. For many, modern healthcare feels like a distant luxury. At IIT Bombay, the Biomedical Engineering & Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC) was born from a desire to bridge this gap, and ensure that world-class medical devices are designed, built, and delivered right here at home.

In the sun-drenched fields of Dharashiv, a new kind of harvest is taking root—one that begins not in the soil, but in the shared wisdom of its people. For years, the story of this land was written by the unpredictable ebb and flow of hidden waters, but today, the narrative has begun to change.

When machines learn to see, they don’t just process pixels—they begin to decode the world. But for artificial intelligence to truly serve the nation, its visual understanding must reflect the country’s unique terrain, varied infrastructure, and distinct environmental realities.

When India looks toward a clean energy future, green hydrogen stands out as a powerful solution. But building it at scale requires more than ambition—it requires technology that is affordable, safe, and built within the country. At IIT Bombay, a partnership with HSBC India is turning that vision into reality.

India’s sustainability transition will not be driven by policy alone, it will be shaped by the people who are prepared to act on it. At IIT Bombay, a new initiative is working to build exactly that foundation: students, researchers, and innovators equipped to turn sustainability from an idea into action.

When a student at IIT Bombay imagines a solution to a real-world problem, the idea is powerful but often, it stops there. Not because it lacks potential, but because it lacks a starting point.

India’s transition to electric mobility is no longer a distant goal — it is happening now. But behind every electric vehicle lies a deeper challenge: how to make these vehicles more affordable, efficient, and truly built in India.

Every day, millions of packages move across cities, countries, and continents. Yet, behind this movement, lies a complex web of decisions, delays, and inefficiencies. From warehouse operations and long hauls across continents, to last-mile delivery, even small improvements can create large-scale impact.

For the bright minds at IIT Bombay, the weight of solving global challenges should be the only burden they carry, and the greatest enabler of this vision is a safe, focused space to call home on campus. For years, however, the reality of campus overcrowding meant that academic ambition often had to compete with the search for privacy and a place to truly belong.

Across India, some of the most pressing rural challenges, whether in agriculture, livelihoods, or healthcare, are being addressed through innovative technologies developed at leading institutions like IIT Bombay.
